Fluoride Magic!
At Seedling Kids Dentistry, one of the essential services we provide as part of our preventive care is fluoride treatments. Dr. Noyan Aynechi, with her extensive expertise in pediatric dentistry, recommends fluoride treatments to strengthen children’s teeth and protect against cavities.
What is Fluoride?
Fluoride is a natural mineral found in various foods and water sources. It plays a crucial role in maintaining dental health by making the tooth enamel more resistant to decay and helping to repair early stages of tooth decay even before it becomes visible.
Benefits of Fluoride Treatments
Strengthening Tooth Enamel: Fluoride integrates with the tooth enamel, making it more resilient against acid attacks from bacteria and sugars in the mouth. This helps in preventing the formation of cavities.
Reversing Early Decay: Fluoride can help reverse the early stages of tooth decay by remineralizing areas of the enamel that have started to break down.
Long-Lasting Protection: Regular fluoride treatments provide long-term protection for your child’s teeth, ensuring they remain healthy and strong as they grow.
Safe and Painless: Fluoride treatments are quick, non-invasive, and completely painless. They are safe for children and provide an added layer of protection for their developing teeth.
How Fluoride Treatments Work
During your child’s dental visit, Dr. Aynechi will apply a highly concentrated fluoride varnish or gel to their teeth. This process only takes a few minutes and involves no discomfort. The fluoride is absorbed into the tooth enamel, strengthening it and making it more resistant to decay.
When to Get Fluoride Treatments
Fluoride treatments are recommended every six months, coinciding with your child’s regular dental check-ups. However, depending on your child’s individual needs and risk of tooth decay, Dr. Aynechi may suggest more frequent applications.
At-Home Fluoride Care
Fluoridated Water: Ensure your child drinks fluoridated water, which is an excellent source of daily fluoride.
Fluoride Toothpaste: Use fluoride toothpaste when brushing your child’s teeth. For children under three, use a rice-sized amount; for children three and older, use a pea-sized amount.
Fluoride Rinses: For older children, fluoride mouth rinses can provide additional protection, especially if they are at high risk for cavities.
